Collection: Day of the Dead

Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos is a festive Mexican holiday to honor and remember ancestors. People build altars, called ofrendas, with pictures of departed ancestors, and items they loved such as tequila or fruits or objects. The altars are draped with colorful strings of yellow and orange marigolds or other flowers. Imagery for this holiday include festive painted skulls or skeletons partying. Local towns hold parades and processions. Here in southern Arizona, there are celebrations in early November which include parades, dancers and of course delicious food. Day of the Dead falls a couple days after halloween but is not related.
